JFA Montessori Teacher Training Centre

Establishing a Montessori Training Centre in Kolkata, East India, to equip educators with child-centred, developmentally appropriate teaching methods. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning from an early age. The centre aims to meet the growing demand for Montessori-trained educators in the region and bridge existing gaps in early childhood education and teacher training.

Association Montessori Internationale

The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) was established in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori, a doctor by qualification, to continue her work and ensure that the Montessori approach remained relevant and available for future generations. Dr. Montessori believed in the power of education for social reform, and that education is an important means to bring about world peace. AMI continues Dr. Montessori’s vision and work, of further exploring the potential of education, championing the fundamental rights of the child akin to human rights and bringing Montessori education to communities globally.

AMI is renowned for enabling teachers to become masters of transformative teaching by implementing the Montessori approach with the highest level of fidelity. AMI Montessori Teacher Certification helps teachers nurture each child according to their individual needs while balancing the development of all children.

AMI-trained teachers help children follow their interests and passions to develop strong academic and life skills, leadership, self-discipline, responsibility and independence. AMI-trained teachers create learning environments that are self-led, self-paced, supporting active, collaborative and joyful learning – everything that is needed to create a lifelong learner.

AMI-aligned schools having AMI-trained teachers reassure parents that they stand committed to supporting their teachers in following Montessori best practices that help develop each child’s full potential.

AMI empowers not only teachers but entire communities through Montessori education. Founded by Dr. Montessori, AMI is the steward of the Montessori educational approach developed over a 100 years ago, continuing to build upon her work, by applying it in varied settings and not just supporting the child but adults and elders too.

AMI’s Scientific Pedagogy Group together with the broader AMI community promote and continue to study, research and reflect on Dr. Montessori’s work, ensuring it remains contemporary and aligned with current insights in child development and education. Thus, AMI ensures that the AMI teacher training and Montessori education consistently meet the highest standards of implementation across the globe.

The Mission

The mission of the Association Montessori Internationale is to support the natural development of the human being from birth to maturity, enabling children to become the transforming elements of society, leading to a harmonious and peaceful world.

AMI Montessori Training

The Association Montessori Internationale accredits training centres throughout the world. These centres offer AMI diploma courses that are internationally recognised for their high standard and authenticity. The courses offered by the Association Montessori Internationale prepare adults to work with children at the following levels: Assistants to Infancy (0-3), Primary (3-6), First Plane (0-6), and Elementary (6-12). “Work is also underway to document the current body of knowledge relating to Montessori education for the 12-18-year age group, and an orientation for teachers (in collaboration with NAMTA) is available. Each year thousands of teachers and classroom assistants are trained worldwide. The number of AMI teachers graduating is still less than the demand, which is due to the worldwide recognition of the quality of the AMI Diploma. All training centres are staffed by highly qualified AMI teacher trainers, and a pedagogical team of experienced advisors ensures that the objectives of Maria Montessori’s pedagogical principles are maintained. Students are examined by external examiners appointed by AMI to further ensure the high standards and integrity of the courses. Training centres may also run courses at more than one geographical site.

About Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF)

The Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF) is a pan-Indian voluntary organisation that works to promote Montessori principles of child development among teachers and parents. It was established in 2009 to create awareness about Montessori principles and provide a common forum for anyone interested in child development. The IMF is guided by a team of trustees who bring considerable experience in education and training across India.

Indian Montessori Foundation (IMF)

Being a voluntary organisation run by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers across India and abroad, IMF has brought together like-minded Montessori practitioners, educators, and experts who are in service of children through various platforms. The organisation supports parents, teachers, schools, AMI graduates, and others interested in Montessori education. IMF is the Indian affiliate of the Association Montessori Internationale, Netherlands.

IMF organises talks, workshops, webinars, and conferences, creating spaces for discussion and interaction. The aim of these events is to enrich the lives of young children by bringing the community together.

Montessori books are inspiring. They are mainly drawn from transcripts of Montessori’s lectures given in various courses. Her words put us in close touch with the child and his environment.  IMF publishes books written by Maria Montessori to support the practice of Montessori education in India. Montessori environments require handmade materials. The teachers are usually hard-pressed for time. So IMF also produces a few useful educational materials which are widely used in Montessori schools. Small-sized furniture, in keeping with Montessori principles and suitable for children between birth and six years, is made to order.

IMF publishes a newsletter called The Touch Board to reach out to all members of the Montessori community – AMI members, teachers, parents and alumni. The newsletter features articles, anecdotes, columns, features, news from the training centres and creates an ongoing dialogue in the community. Eight issues are published between July and March each school year.

The IMF Annual Journal, called Montessori Matters, carries serious articles on education by Montessori experts, practitioners, and educators, as well as transcripts of presentations given at IMF conferences.

Friends of IMF will have special access to the donors’ section. The Touch Board and Montessori Matters, along with articles on education and child development, are available to read online. Indian Montessori Foundation has instituted the Anandhi Ramachandran Endowment Fund (AREF) to support the education of Montessori teachers and Montessori Teacher Trainers. AREF is a special corpus donation that helps people who need financial assistance to train as Montessori teachers or trainers. You can connect with IMF on Facebook and Instagram.
